Get Sweaty ~ At a Covid-19 Distance!
Staying active makes you happier and more confident. Considering the state of the world right now, who doesn’t want to be happier and more confident physically, emotionally, and spiritually? With every freedom comes responsibility. Try exercising 10-15 minutes for every hour you’re looking at a screen.
I confess I have been known to fall asleep while watching movies at night. I am an early morning person. I’ve been going to the gym for 6:00 am classes for years. How, you might ask? I pretend as though I can’t tell time. Don’t hit the snooze button! Especially right now, when the alarm goes off, roll out of bed, and get to class while you’re still half asleep. Getting your feet on the ground can be the thing that takes the most strength all day, just like pushing away from the table at the end of each meal! Give me 10-15 active minutes per screen hour! Go get sweaty and happy.
Let the flock be your clock. When’s the best time of the day to exercise? That answer depends on your schedule. Right now, during Covid-19, everyone’s life has been turned upside down. If you are one to save exercise until the end of the day, that’s fine as long as life doesn’t get in the way. Schedule exercise into your daily agenda. Get sweaty any time of day. You can exercise and listen to the early morning birds or the owls at night, just pick one flock daily. Get your heart rate up and know you are doing yourself and others a favor, no matter what the clock says.
Finally, rest and digest to get your endorphin levels up. As my friend and health coach, Donna K. Kelly, states in her Facebook live talks, we can manipulate our feel-good hormones such as serotonin by doing actions that are good for our hearts. Pay attention. Sometimes your body needs a rest. This isn’t, however, a card you can use daily. Sometimes when I’m coming down with something, a workout helps move it on. And at other times, my tired body is telling me to skip the hot room session for a day or two. Rest and relax and know that when you’re ready, you can move back to your routine quickly instead of coming down with something and taking day/weeks/months to return to your usual schedule.
Here’s a challenge-for every hour spent on screen time (TV, phone, computer,) spend 10-15 minutes on moving your body. Get sweaty! We might find ourselves endlessly scrolling on social media. No judgments, we all need a little escapism, maybe every day. Don’t be hard on yourself and yet, keep track of to whom/what you’re devoting your time. Connect authentically online to feel less isolated. Give someone an online, uplifting moment. Schedule a Zoom call with loved ones.
Work out when you’re half asleep. Your sleepiness won’t last long once you get going! Timing is everything. Get more confidence by making exercise fit your schedule and your workout will make you more confident. Win-win, right?
Sweat is an anti-depressant. Get your heart rate up every day! Your health is a gift to the world. Take care of yourself so you can help take care of others and the Earth. Get sweaty and get happy.
